Dear sweet little Kona girl, you are beyond missed. Our lizard population in the backyard has flourished without you here. Every time I see one on the wall, I imagine you bolting out the doggy door to chase it back into the depths of the cinder blocks. Even though Grayson was only 19 months when you passed, he talks about you all the time. Poor Finn boy hasn’t been the same without you. A hole remains in each of our hearts, but especially in his. Dad talks of you often, about how you were his & he can’t imagine ever being closer to a dog. Kona, I miss your sweet snuggles. The way you spun around when anticipating a walk, then your little 7 lb body pulling us along. I miss the way you wrapped around my head on the pillow at night. I hope you’re best friends with all the lizards up there. I can’t wait to see you again someday sweet girl!

Kona came to our family as a stray from the shelter. I had been wanting a second dog & was trying to convince my husband. The second he met Kona, she had him wrapped around his finger. She was an answer to prayers & was meant to be with us. My only regret was not being able to have her for the first several years of her life. Finn, our maltipoo puppy, absolutely adored Kona. He was extremely protective of her, from the moment we brought her home. They would snuggle on top of the couch & look out the window during the day. We spent many days out on the kayaks, hiking, & going for all the walks. She absolutely loved french fries & our occasional late night drive thru trips. We imagine she was older than the shelter originally guessed. She became sick in October 2023 & was diagnosed with leukemia. Pregnant & nauseous in my first trimester with our second baby, I syringe fed her three times a day for her last few months of life. We worried we were hanging on too long, but despite her pain, she would still follow us around the house, finding the softest blanket or bed in each room. We miss our mighty lizard hunter.
